Syllabus The purpose of this VFD Management Course is to help volunteer and combined fire departments enjoy better general management, decision making, financing, effectiveness, public relations, personnel relations, and the benefits of putting "organization" into the organization. For those modules available for FREE for all to use on-line, this is with the explicit understanding of the agreed compliance to this limited use and all provisions set forth in the Copyright Notice Participation in the first five (5) modules of this VFD/EMS management course is FREE to use as an on-line resource to assist officers and officer candidates to become more competent in their positions. However for those seeking to complete the entire course with emphasis to certification, it does require a registration. Ways to Take This Course: 1. On-line Personal Enrichment/Independent Study - The first five (5) modules are free, but do not include instructor support. Additional modules after the first five (5) are at a rate of $50/module. You can take as many modules as you wish and complete these at your own pace. 2. Certification - Certification studies may be taken on-line and/or through a fire school, college or university offering the program through them. Registration is required and the first five (5) modules must be completed, with a minimum score of 80%, to progress onto other modules. A. The cost of the first five (5) modules is $250, with each additional module costing $100/module. Limited instructor assistance is available. Module testing and certification exam are administered on-line. You must pass each module, prior to advancing to additional modules. B. If the program is offered through a fire school, college or university; addition fees and costs may apply. You should inquire from the school regarding their fees and costs. C. Successful completion of this program may be tax deductible. You should check with your fire department, community, accountant, or attorney to determine if your participation qualifies for an up to $2,500 tax credit. 3. Fire School and/or Community College Course - This course may be also offered through fire schools, training academies, and community colleges. Individual and group methods of instruction are available as on-line, evening and weekend classes. Check with your local county or state fire academy for details. A. You should inquire from the school regarding their fees and costs. B. Successful completion of this program may be tax deductible. You should check with your fire department, community, accountant, or attorney to determine if your participation qualifies for an up to $2,500 tax credit. 4. College Credit - This course can be taken on-line, in the classroom and or by a combination of both. You should contact your faculty advisor or the department chair for further information. If your college/university does not offer credit and if they wish to do so, you should have them contact us to make arrangements and for additional information and materials. Successful completion of the course will then result in college credit and also with a certification of the successful completion of the curriculum, with varied levels, dependent upon your certification exam score. Finally, whether or not you receive a certificate or college credit for your participation, we cogently believe you'll benefit from the knowledge that you gain and likewise so will your department and the citizens you serve in your community. We will work diligently with all participants to make the matriculation through this course to be as self-paced, individualized, beneficial, informative, and as much fun as is possible.
