Up / H.E.A.T. / Review of Modules 1-4

    1.    Identify 8 or more ways that a VFD/EMS service is different than most other non-profit community organizations.

    2.    As an officer, with authorities come _______________.

    3.    In the second step of becoming an effective VFD/EMS officer, what are the three (3) things a new officer must gain?

    4.    Review your company's policy & procedures manual and checklists for the responsibilities you have for your office.  If these do not exist, write them.

    5.    What are the things which differentiate an election of officers from a popularity contest?

    6.    What are the nine (9) things a candidate for an administrative or a line office should do to show their competence and worthiness for office?

    7.    Define "politics".

    8.    What are the three (3) elements of every negotiation?

    9.    Identify at least eight (8) of the potential types of power that could exist in a negotiation.

    10.    Identify the eight (8) levels of politics every officer of a fire/EMS department will need to used and develop to become effective in their office.

    11.    For each of the eight (8) levels of politics a fire/EMS officers would need to identify and develop, write down the name and contact number of at least three (3) people...yep, that's 24 folks total!

    12.    Identify a good officer and at least five (5) characteristics they demonstrated that made them good officers.

    13.    Identify a bad officer and at least five (5) characteristics they demonstrated that made them bad officers.

    14.    What is H.E.A.T.?

    15.    Identify how you can increase the help you get to fulfill your office by using each of the eight (8) levels of politics every officer of a fire/EMS will need to identify and develop.  Do the same for either the position of president or chief.

    16.    Identify at least three (3) ways you can increase your experience from within the department and two (2) ways you can increase your experience from outside the department.

    17.    Identify at least five (5) attitude characteristics of a good officer and five (5) attitude characteristics of a bad officer.

    18.    Identify at least three (3) sources of training opportunities for yourself and other members of the department in a 50 mile area.

    19.    Identify at least seven (7) sources of training on-line, through correspondence courses or other resources that would make you and your other officers/members more effective.

    20.    What are the best forms of acquiring training for yourself?

    21.    What is the best form of teaching others?

    21.    What are the four (4) "R"s of teaching others?
