Makanda
Township Fire Department is a professional volunteer fire department serving
approximately 4,800 citizens in a thirty six square mile area south of
Carbondale, Illinois. The department is
staffed
by approximately 30 volunteers operating out of two
stations.
The department is led by Chief Ron Hertter, who was appointed to the
position in March, 2002.
The Department is proud to hold a Class 6
ISO rating. This rating is not easily
obtained by a rural volunteer department, and Makanda Township Fire
Department is one of the few in our area to hold this rating. The effects
of this rating include savings of approximately $250-$300 a year on
homeowners insurance for our citizens
