The Meeker Vol. Fire and Rescue department is under authority of the Rio Blanco Fire Protection District. The Meeker Fire Department was established in 1933 and the new name Meeker Vol. Fire and Rescue was selected in March of 1997 with the merger of the Meeker Vol. Fire Department and the Meeker Ambulance Service.

About Wheat Ridge Fire Department:
The department is 79 years old and all volunteer with the exception of the District staff which includes the Fire Chief, Fire Marshall, Training Officer, and Administrative Assistant. We test two times a year, once in March, and in September. Currently we have approximately 100 volunteers, and hope to grow to above 120 by the end of this year. All new recruits are required to run a total of 36 shift hours a month.
